[Day 12] Questions I’d like to ask about American TV commercials

When someone tells their friends that “XYZ is one of the best providers”, why do their friends never ask: “What are the other best?”

Why do people in LoanMe commercials never look like those who actually need money? Why are they always well-dressed, clean-shaven young white males?

Why are they showing commercials for cemeteries in the gyms and not in the hospitals?

Why is there never a female Asian driver in a car commercial? Wouldn’t it send the message: “Our car is so safe even Asian females can drive it”?

Why do people’s mouths look so clean when they brush their teeth? Where did the foam go?

Why is there still no AdBlocker for TV commercials?

Why are there so many commercials?

  1. Very funny list! There is a sort of workaround that has the same net result as an ad blocker, if you are a DISH customer. They offer a DVR model called “The Hopper” that can distinguish between program and commercials (there’s a digital ID fingerprint). When you program a show, it gets recorded WITHOUT the ads! For those who aren’t DISH customers, there’s always a button on your remote that will skip ahead 30 sec. or a minute, so you don’t have to watch. You’re out of luck watching “live”, but if you have good reflexes, you can hit “mute” and at least not have to listen. My wife and I have fun supplying our own dialogue, especially during network news when the ads are all for old folk’s medications.
